- There is no prerequisite for Statistics (MAT 111) or
Great Ideas of Modern
Mathematics (COR 203).
- Students who have completed Algebra II in high school
may enroll in
Precalculus (MAT 103) or Applied Calculus (MAT 121).
- Students who have completed Algebra II in high school
and an additional
year of high school mathematics which included coverage of
trigonometry
may enroll in Calculus I (MAT 131).
- The prerequisite for Calculus II (MAT 132) is Calculus
I (MAT 131).
Applied Calculus (MAT 121) does not satisfy this
prerequisite.
- Students who are uncertain if they are ready for
Precalculus (MAT 103), Applied Calculus (MAT 121), or
Calculus I (MAT 131) or who feel they would like more
preparation* for these courses will have the opportunity to
take a short diagnostic test on the first day of class.
Later that day, students will be able to meet individually
with the instructor to discuss the results of the test and
to obtain a recommendation as to the best course of action.
The final decision as to whether to remain in the course or
switch to a preliminary course will rest with the student.
- Preparation for Precalculus (MAT 103) and Applied
Calculus (MAT 121) is provided by College Algebra with
Modeling (MAT 102) which is designed to reinforce material
from second-year high school algebra with special attention
paid to functions and modeling. Preparation for Calculus I
(MAT 131) is provided by Precalculus (MAT 103) which
includes coverage of trigonometry.
