Oglethorpe University is pleased to offer a variety of non-credit language classes. Participation in these courses is open to the general public; enrollment in an Oglethorpe degree program is not required. Each class is limited; advance registration is encouraged.

An application form is available for online submission or download at left; Acrobat Reader is needed to open the document. Tuition (listed in each class description) must be paid in full at the time of registration; all major credit cards are accepted.
Applications may be faxed to 404-504-1071, or you may visit the Registrar's Office in Lupton Hall on the Oglethorpe campus. French
SPEAKING FRENCH I and II
Taught by Marie Helene Sneed, a native of France and French culinary chef who has taught French at the Alliance Francaise and at a Montessori School.
8 classes, held on Thursday evenings, 6:30-8 p.m. for French I and 8:05-9:35 p.m. for French II, beginning January 21, $150
Taught in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, this class provides an excellent basis for further study in French. No prerequisites.

Hebrew
CONVERSATIONAL HEBREW I
Taught by Hana Lapidot, who has taught Hebrew in Israel for 24 years.
8 classes, held on Tuesday evenings, 8-9:30 p.m. beginning January 19, $150
Unlike Biblical Hebrew, Modern Hebrew is used in daily conversations and contemporary literature. Our course emphasizes conversational Hebrew only. We will learn how to introduce ourselves and others; how to shop in supermarkets and malls; how to order food and how not to get lost. We will also learn how to read and write (from right to left). We will listen to short dialogues/conversations, enjoy singing and learn some aspects of Israeli culture. Material will be handed out in class.

Italian
ITALIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE I
Taught by Vicenzo Di Pietro, an experienced teacher of Italian business linguistics who also organizes trips to Italy for his students.

Designed for beginners, our Italian-for-travel course can help you become more confident in your upcoming journey. Practice asking for directions, ordering food and making purchases. The class also develops cultural fluency by giving you the skills necessary for successful cultural exchanges. Taught in an informal and relaxed atmosphere, this class provides an excellent basis for further study in Italian. No prerequisites.

Mandarin Chinese
MANDARIN CHINESE I
Taught by Jean Chang Lee, who holds a Master of Education degree and is the Administrative Assistant of the Chinese Culture Center.
8 classes, held on Monday evenings, 6:30-8 p.m. beginning January 18, $150
This course will be a conversational approach to Mandarin Chinese. The book to be used is Chinese in Ten Minutes a Day by Christine Kershuel, which can be purchased at Borders or Barnes and Noble.

Spanish
SPEAKING SPANISH I and II
Spanish I will be taught by Rosita Cunningham, certified Spanish teacher and former Consul of Costa Rica. Spanish II, a continuation of Spanish I, will be taught by Betty Pareja, a certified Spanish teacher from Bolivia.
8 classes, to be held on Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8 p.m. for Spanish I and 8-9:30 p.m. for Spanish II,

Want to communicate with Hispanic colleagues? In law enforcement, healthcare, hospitality, construction or landscaping? Work in Latin America? Or perhaps you would like to travel to Spanish speaking countries? This course is for you and your employees. Our conversational approach has you speaking Spanish from day one. It’s practical, fun and effective. We’ll cover grammatical notes and touch on cultural aspects of Spanish-speaking countries, including business etiquette. A workbook and CD will be available from the instructor at the first class ($25, cash or check). No prerequisites.
