Russell KramerBy Adam Tomlin '09

Just a few months before graduation, most seniors are searching for the next move, the next challenge. Russell Kramer, Oglethorpe class of 2008, is no different. Having a passion for sports, and a dream of one day being a university athletic director, Russell contacted Oglethorpe University Athletic Director Jay Gardiner to set up an internship.

“I was looking at first just to see if being involved in sports was the right move for me. It turned out better than I could have ever dreamed. It is a privilege to get to work alongside Jay Gardiner, who has so much experience in the sports field. He has taught me so much.”

This internship has connected Russell with the Southern Collegiate Athletic Association (SCAC), which has offered him an internship. With these two internships, Russell is beginning to pave his own future.

“This was exciting news for me. I never dreamed that an opportunity like interning at a collegiate conference would develop so fast.”

Russell, the emerging leader, has been involved with other aspects of Oglethorpe’s student organizations. He was president of his fraternity, a member of the student government, a four year member of the soccer team, a student peer mentor and a member of the ’08 for OU senior campaign. He is very grateful for the personal development that has come from his four years at Oglethorpe University.

“I came in here as someone who didn’t know what I wanted to do or who I was. Oglethorpe has undoubtedly helped me discover myself. Oglethorpe has taught me and helped show me how to be the person that I want to be. I am much stronger because of my experiences here. I am very grateful for everything Oglethorpe has brought to me.”
