By Kerry Reid, evening degree program student

Have you ever wished you could jump into the page of your textbook and actually experience what you are reading about?

Then why not consider taking a short-term trip with the Oglethorpe University Students Abroad (OUSA) program? Embark on an adventure of learning where you may catch glimpses of ruins from ancient civilizations, walk on cobblestone streets where kings may have stood or gaze at your favorite original painting.

I recently experienced how studying abroad can be both inspiring and life changing. During spring break I traveled to France with nine other students from Oglethorpe. It was an intensive ten-day study of the history, art and culture of France. We had a very full schedule, and I was amazed at how much we covered in such a short amount of time. It was so awe-inspiring for me to actually see and experience such historic places I had previously only read about in books. The images of the historic sights are engraved in my mind making a lasting impression on my life. This trip was a real growing experience for me personally which broadened my perspective on the world and taught me important lessons for my life.

In addition to the wonderful learning experience, another aspect I enjoyed about the trip was the opportunity to develop friendships with other Oglethorpe students. These trips can be a real team-building experience and a great way for students to get more connected with the Oglethorpe community. I am so grateful that I was able to participate in the study abroad program and I certainly recommend it to every Oglethorpe student.
