Julie Comer, a Politics major, has learned more about herself participating in the Rich Urban Leadership Foundation Program (RULFP). The program is open to any student, not only students of politics and the goal is to build effective leadership skills. “It isn’t just about politics, but about everyday life. It’s about moral as well as political leadership.”
For Julie, the program provides a solid foundation in leadership and gives her the opportunity to implement what she learns in the classroom in her relationships with others and in the community. RULFP students hold forums on various issues and invite Oglethorpe and members of the public to participate in these discussions.
Julie credits the RULP in helping her come to the place where she now knows that true leaders build up an army of other leaders around them. So, for her, the program has been about the value of empowerment. “It’s helped me reach my goals, map out what I want, then help others reach their goals. It’s never only about yourself but helping others in their leadership also. That’s the only way we can really make a difference.”
