Larissa Ozeryansky ’11

Individually Planned Major (IPM)

Larissa visited Oglethorpe for the first time when Mayor Rudy Giuliani spoke at Oglethorpe in 2007. Now, she’s the first Civic Engagement Scholar where she receives full tuition for 4 years and a $3,000 stipend in her junior year for a community project of her choice and another $3,000 for her senior year thesis, as part of the Honors Program.

A Pre-Med/Peace double major, Larissa is interested in not just being a doctor. “I want to help people in every way I can. Before I heal their bodies, I want to help them heal their everyday lives.” With an interest in Peace Studies, when this major was not offered at Oglethorpe, Larissa successfully petitioned to complete an individually planned Peace major. Her professors were very supportive and wanted to help make it real. “I know what I want to do and here, everyone wants to help. They make me feel that I can rally do something.”

Larissa plans to continue her studies at the Institute for War and Peace at The Hague.
