There is NO prerequisite for Statistics (MAT 111) or
Great Ideas of Modern
Mathematics (COR 203).
The following introductory courses DO have prerequisites: Applied Calculus (MAT 121), Advanced Functions (MAT 130), and Calculus I (MAT 131).
The prerequisite for Applied Calculus is: Introduction to Functions (MAT 120).
The prerequisite for Advanced Functions is: Introduction to Functions (MAT 120).
The prerequisite for Calculus I is: Advanced Functions (MAT 130).
You must satisfy the prerequisite either (1) by passing the course at Oglethorpe with a grade of "C" or better OR (2) by securing an appropriate score on the Mathematics Placement Test.
The Mathematics Placement Test produces an individual score report which shows all the courses for which a student can enroll with the earned score. This report also shows what prerequisite(s) course(s) must be taken before a student can enroll in a target class (if the student does not secure the needed score).
If a student did not take the Mathematics Placement Test during Orientation at Passport, then he/she should take it in the Academic Success Center in the Library if he/she needs to take one of these three courses.
Be careful. A student can only take this test ONCE; so, be ready for it!
The official prerequisite for Calculus II (MAT 132) is passing Calculus
I (MAT 131) with a grade of "C" or better.
Upon the signature from the instructor of Calculus II and a grade of "B" or higher in Applied Calculus, that Applied Calculus course (MAT 121) may be used as an alternate prerequisite for Calculus II (MAT 132).
