 What is the Oglethorpe Fund?
Gifts to the Oglethorpe Fund support a variety of services on campus
such as scholarships, student programs, faculty development, library
collections and general daily operating expenses. Tuition does not
cover all the costs of running this university, and we need
Oglethorpe Fund donors to help make that happen!

Why is My Gift So Important?
Annual giving builds our financial strength by providing support for
our ongoing mission and for our future. You are also allowing
Oglethorpe to fulfill its commitment to today's students by
providing:
- The opportunity to grow
At Oglethorpe, students can experience a variety of new and
different things - a major role in a theatrical production,
writing for the newspaper or sharing living space with someone
from a different cultural background. Throughout these new
experiences, students are encouraged to discover how they can make
a life, make a living and make a difference.
- A first-class university in a world-class city
Through a variety of learning venues - the OUr Atlanta program,
the opportunities for community involvement through the Rich
Foundation Urban Leadership Program and the wide array of
internships available to students, Oglethorpe offers students an
opportunity to apply their classroom lessons to the real-world
settings of Atlanta, one of the most dynamic cities in the nation.
- A coherent curriculum focused on the student
The sequenced Core Curriculum, in which students study common
texts at the same points in their collegiate careers, allows for
active student-to-student exchange of ideas outside of the
classroom, as well as the opportunity to discuss important ideas
with professors and other students in an intimate setting. The
Fresh Focus program allows upperclassmen, along with professors,
to mentor first-year students in seminars on a wide array of
subjects, helping build strong relationships.
- The ability to make a difference in the Atlanta community
Oglethorpe University is committed to being a forum for the
discussion of important issues and urging students to take a role
in solving significant problems. Issues of our time that need to
be discussed are discussed here; involvement that makes a
difference in the community begins here.
- A place "Where Students Come First"
According to the 2000 Fiske Guide to Colleges, Oglethorpe is a
place where "students come first." More than a nice turn of a
phrase, this is the reality at Oglethorpe University. Professors
are not only directly aware of a student's intellectual progress
in courses, but also of the student's overall well-being and
development as an individual.
Alumni Giving
The number of alumni who give to the university is extremely
important. When OU approaches foundations for grants, one of the
first questions asked of the university is, "What percentage of
alumni gives to the university?" They want to know that our alumni
take pride in their alma mater. That's why it is important for you
to show your support now. Each year we rely on alumni support to
enable us to meet the challenge of fulfilling Oglethorpe's mission.
Each and every alumni gift is very important!
So what is the bottom line? Alumni involvement leads to
greater distinction for Oglethorpe, which makes your degree even
more valuable.
What is the difference between restricted and unrestricted
gifts?
Alumni can make gifts that are specifically designated for certain
purposes such as scholarships, equipment, or buildings. Alumni may
also make unrestricted gifts. Unrestricted gifts are monies donated
toward general operating expenses. These funds are not earmarked for
a specific need, but can be used by OU where the need is greatest.
Will my company match my gift?
Check with your or your spouse's human resources office. To take
advantage of matching gift programs, simply obtain your or your
spouse's company's matching gift form (generally found in the Human
Resources or Personnel Office), fill out the form and return it to
us with your personal contribution. More

Is my gift tax deductible?
Yes! Your gift is tax deductible as a contribution in support of
Oglethorpe University, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.
