General Campus Rules and Regulations

Oglethorpe students should abide by federal, state and local laws. Behavior anywhere on campus which would be in violation of such laws may subject an individual to University disciplinary procedures and sanctions. Such behavior includes, but is not limited to, violence, disorderly conduct, disruptive behavior, vandalism, theft, acts that may result in harm to oneself or others, and other illegal acts.

In addition, there are specific campus rules which students must know and heed.

1. No type of gun (including, but not limited to, pistols, rifles, air and pellet guns, and paintball guns), illegal knife, or other weapon may be kept in the student's room or vehicle on campus.
2. The possession or discharging of explosives, fireworks, or other hazardous materials on campus is in violation of the laws of Georgia and is prohibited.
3. Excessive noise during any hour will be considered a major infraction of the rules. Specific quiet hours are posted as applicable.
4. Smoking is prohibited in campus buildings. This includes classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, lounge areas, rest rooms, corridors, stairwells, the library, the New Residence Hall, the field house, the student center and any other interior spaces in buildings. Each fraternity and sorority chapter determines the smoking policy in its Greek house.
5. Students are not permitted to enter the electrical service rooms, boiler rooms, and air conditioning tower or to be on roofs of campus buildings.
6. The University expects students to maintain a neat appearance when attending class or campus events. Shoes and shirts are to be worn in all buildings except campus residences.
7. It is the policy of the University to treat all attempted suicides and suicidal gestures with seriousness regardless of the degree of lethality involved in the attempt. A student who has made such an attempt must receive clearance from the campus psychologist to continue to live on campus and to participate in co-curricular activities.
