David Dixon '10

I joined the Oglethorpe family first as a student in 2007, then as Admission Assistant in 2008, and I currently serve as Assistant Director of Admission.  I like to tell people I am “Florida born, Georgia raised,” which simply means that I was born in Ft. Lauderdale but have lived in Atlanta since I was three years old. Graduating from the Marist School in 2000, I started college by returning to south Florida and attending the University of Miami, but life led me back to Atlanta.  Little did I know, the best place for me to thrive was in my backyard the whole time!  During my time as a student at Oglethorpe, I was a member of the varsity track team and was nominated to the Honor Council. I earned placement on the Dean’s List for Academic Achievement while working full-time as a member of the admission team. I am currently on the next leg of my educational journey at the Georgia State University College of Law.

In the office, I am responsible for adult applicants, both for the adult programs leading to a bachelor's degree and for the Master of Education in global education. I also support traditional undergraduate admission in various roles including our International Baccalaureate relationships.

In my personal life, I am a seasoned traveler having gone as far west as Hawaii, as far east as Thailand, and touching over 15 countries in between. When not at work I enjoy cooking, playing basketball, watching movies, practicing yoga, getting muddy in off-road obstacle courses like Spartan Race, relaxing with my dog Sensae, playing with my two year old nephew, and spending time with my wife, Dosia, who earned a B.A. in Communication and Rhetoric Studies with a minor in Psychology from Oglethorpe. Go Petrels!

Favorite spot on campus: Sitting in an adirondack chair under the giant oak tree watching the sun set behind Lowry Hall.  Also doubles as the best classroom on campus!
Favorite OU tradition: Stomp the Lawn (giant inflatables, mechanical surf boards, and sumo wrestling suits, live music, hot dogs, cotton candy and funnel cake!).
Favorite OU trivia: Dr. Thornwell Jacobs's quotations inscribed in the stone above campus doorways. See if you can find this one: “No man is ever greater than his god. Up from the night the self-same path they trod. One moves not farther than the other can. No god is ever greater than his man.”
Favorite Atlanta restaurant: Downwind Café at the Peachtree DeKalb Airport.
Favorite books: The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, and Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch.
Most interesting place I've been: Thailand, including Phuket and Bangkok, for eighteen days on our honeymoon.
