We were deeply saddened to learn that one of our own, John
Salamone '86, an employee of Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th
floor of the North World Trade Center Tower, was lost.
Many members of the Oglethorpe community were directly and
personally affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We
extend condolences to all alumni who lost family and friends, and
send warm wishes for the recovery of those injured.
Please continue to keep the victims, emergency services workers,
medical personnel, investigators, and all others working toward
recovery in your thoughts and prayers during the long, slow process
of healing.
Memorial Gift Information
Gifts made to the OU Annual Fund in memory of John Salamone will be
recognized in the Honor Roll of Donors. Please write "IMO John

make your gift in John's memory.
Bud Salamone (John's father) has established an Oglethorpe
University scholarship in John's memory. If you would like to
contribute to the scholarship, you may do so by credit card (call

the subject line of your check. ) The scholarship will be awarded
for the first time in the fall of 2004.

on Sunday, May 18, 2002
The Stormy Petrel soccer team
dedicated their 4:00 p.m. soccer game to
John's memory on September 11, 2002.
The Oglethorpe University soccer field was
dedicated in John's name
on Saturday, October 19, 2002
during Family Weekend.
The John P. Salamone Memorial Soccer game
is organized each year by John's friends and former teammates.
The 2003 Salamone Memorial Soccer Game was Sunday, May 4, 2003
Information on the 2004 game
will be posted here when the organizers relay the
information to the alumni office.
