Oglethorpe's Theatre Department offers interactive courses in a
practical sequence of acting and directing while providing a wide
range of opportunities in hands-on production roles. The goal of the
theatre program is for students to learn by doing, complementing the
very solid academic background provided by theatre history, dramatic
literature and special topics courses and, of course, the sterling
Oglethorpe University Core and general education.
At Oglethorpe, our objective is to prepare students for more than
just a career or graduate school. We prepare students for life. Of
course, we in theatre believe that the rigorous training and demands
of doing theatre, with its humanistic and aesthetic concerns, and
multi-arts, interdisciplinary and collaborative approaches,
particularly prepares one for life. After all, theatre is about
life!
Oglethorpe offers faculty and student directed plays, guest
productions and workshops, visiting artists and special connections
to Atlanta professional theatres such as Georgia Shakespeare and 7
Stages. This combination of international and local opportunities,
study abroad programs and internships and the small, lively college
campus within a big, vibrant city characterizes Oglethorpe
University.
I hope you enjoy the offerings of Oglethorpe's Theatre
Department, whether as a spectator or participant.
