November 18-20, 2004, 8 p.m.
Conant Performing Arts Center
The Oglethorpe University Playmakers present an extraordinary
play by Brian Friel, directed by Deborah Merola. Set in a
small Irish village during the summer of 1936, "Dancing at Lughnasa"
tells the story of five unmarried sisters and a young son.
Their world is disrupted by the return of an elder brother after 20
years as a missionary in Uganda and the harvest festival of Lughnasa,
a time of revelry and dancing. Animated by the music of Irish
fiddler Mick Kinney, "Dancing at Lughnasa" celebrates both ceremony
and innocence.
