September 23-25, 2004, 8 p.m.
Conant Performing Arts Center

The Oglethorpe University Playmakers present a play by A.R. Gurney, directed by Lee Knippenberg.  "The Dining Room" takes place in the dining room of a typical well-to-do household, where the family assembles daily for breakfast and dinner and for all other special occasions.  Comprised of a mosaic of interrelated scenes -- some funny, some touching, some rueful -- this play creates an in-depth portrait of a vanishing species, the upper-middle-class WASP.

by Brian Friel
directed by Deborah Merola

November 18-20, 2004, 8 p.m.
Conant Performing Arts Center

The Oglethorpe University Playmakers present an extraordinary play by Brian Friel, directed by Deborah Merola.  Set in a small Irish village during the summer of 1936, "Dancing at Lughnasa" tells the story of five unmarried sisters and a young son.  Their world is disrupted by the return of an elder brother after 20 years as a missionary in Uganda and the harvest festival of Lughnasa, a time of revelry and dancing.  Animated by the music of Irish fiddler Mick Kinney, "Dancing at Lughnasa" celebrates both ceremony and innocence.
