Our Town with Del Hamilton as the Stage Manager
By Thornton Wilder
Directed by Deborah Merola
March 6, 7 and 8 at 8 p.m.
Conant Performing Arts Center
In a fresh look at this classic American play, consummate actor Del Hamilton, Artistic Director of 7 Stages, brings the wisdom and perspective of his years to the created world of Our Town. The Stage Manager becomes a kind of Prospero figure from Shakespeare’s The Tempest, summoning and then releasing his young charges into the responsibility of their own humanity.
W*A*S*P by Steve Martin
&
A Fiction by Sasha McCurdy
Directed by Zoe Martez Cooper ‘08 and Sara Troficanto ‘08
April 10, 11 and 12 at 8 p.m.
With a special midnight show on April 11
Conant Performing Arts Center
Two student directors take a hand at two original plays performed in repertory:
W*A*S*P, by comedian/playwright Steve Martin, begins as a normal family dinner but quickly digresses into a search for meaning and conflict over mango jello. Despite their individual weirdness, we can identify with each family member as they try to make their family work.
A Fiction, in a premiere production, is about a young woman's attempt to live a life that is as frighteningly unreal as it is real. Follow Lauralai through her painfully honest and often comedic world in which drugs, unexpected friends, and abusive lizards are a part of the norm that she struggles to stabilize.
Tickets: $5 general admission, free to the OU community with ID. For information call 404-504-1074.
