The Georgia
Shakespeare Festival, the professional theatre in residence
at Oglethorpe University, is a nationally recognized LORT D Theatre
(League of Regional Theatres). Dedicated to the production of the
works of William Shakespeare and other enduring authors, GSF
annually mounts a full summer repertory season, as well as a fall
production. With a 17-year history and one of the largest audience
bases of any theatre in the southeast, the Georgia Shakespeare
Festival enjoys a national notoriety that is both commercial and
critical.
The Playmakers/Oglethorpe University Theatre is Oglethorpe’s
collegiate repertory company. Mounting a full season of 5
productions per year, the Playmakers is led by theatre faculty and
made up of student actors, designers, and technicians. The two
companies' interaction results in a dynamic environment that brings
students into constant contact with seasoned professionals, and even
allows for cross-pollination as OU students find opportunities to
participate directly with GSF.
This summer, 7 members of the Playmakers will be contributing
their talents to GSF’s 2003 season.
Jesse
Hinson is a rising sophomore theatre major from Lawrenceville,
Georgia. After having acted in Playmakers productions such as
Antigone and Mud, as well as serving as a valued member of the
Oglethorpe University Theatre technical crew, Jesse brings his
skills and artistry to GSF’s acting intern company this summer.

Atlanta-bred
senior Jessie Dougherty is no stranger to the GSF stage. She
served as an acting intern in GSF’s 2002 season, performing in Death
of a Salesman, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Two Gentlemen of
Verona. A theatre major, Jessie has also performed in many
Playmakers productions, such as The Learned Ladies, Telling Wilde
Tales, Gross Indecency, and Dutchman. She now takes a foray into the
administrative side of the footlights as GSF’s 2003 House Manager.

A
theatre major from Lilburn, Georgia, Aaron Bean is a rising
senior. His work as an actor is a tour of Playmakers productions
from the last 3 years: The House of Bernarda Alba, Gross Indecency,
The Yellow Boat, Antigone, and most recently, Mud. Before he directs
Lee Blessing’s Two Rooms for the Playmakers in the fall, Aaron will
be helping run the GSF season as Assistant House Manager.

Senior
Jenna Sardella hails from Wesley Hills, New York. Though she
has acted with the Playmakers in The Autumn Project, The House of
Bernarda Alba, and Ernest in Love, Jenna’s heart belongs to
Shakespeare. She has stage managed several Playmakers shows
(including The Yellow Boat and Mud), and last year served as GSF’s
2002 House Manager. This summer she brings her knowledge of
Shakespeare to GSF as the 2002 Marketplace Manager.

Drunkard, Madhouse in Goa, Marmalade Gumdrops, The Learned Ladies,
The House of Bernarda Alba, Telling Wilde Tales, and Gross
Indecency. In addition, he is a playwright who has recently staged

Marie Sutherland-Lawless is a rising sophomore from
Lawrenceville, Georgia. As a member of the Oglethorpe University
Theatre technical crew, Marie has worked on all of the 2002-03
Playmakers shows, including Antigone, Cinderella, Mud, The Skriker,
Dutchman, and Sally’s Rape. (She even pulled double-duty by
portraying one of the Wicked Stepsisters in Cinderella!) Continuing
with her stagecraft wizardry, Marie will assist GSF Technical
Director Tim Conley this summer.
Lauren Peck is a rising junior from Bryant, Arkansas. A
poet and writer, Lauren’s interest in women’s studies led her to
enroll in a theatre course, Feminist Theatre & Criticism, where she
encountered many Playmakers! As one of GSF’s summer Box Office
Representatives, Lauren will be one of the first people audience
members see when they come on campus to attend a show!
