The foundation for a new era in Oglethorpe Athletics is being laid. There are a number of positive changes taking place this year. There will be new weight room equipment, courtesy of the agreement with Infinite Sports, lights for the tennis courts and a new wood floor in Dorough field house. The floor will replace the old synthetic surface that has been blamed for so many injuries. The Men’s and Women’s Basketball Coaches are thrilled that basketball will now be played on a hardwood surface the way the game was meant to be.

The field-house has been closed while the work is being done, but student athletes have been sneaking in to get a peak. There is excitement and anticipation as to what the floor will look like and how it will play. Unfortunately the faithful will have to wait for next season to find out how the floor plays, but for those who want to see the new look, here is the final design decided on by the Athletics Director, Jay Gardiner and his staff. The wood is a maple and stained to reflect the colors of Oglethorpe with the letters "O" and "U" prominently displayed in the center.

The look of the future is bright and should reflect well on the new floor in Dorough field-house. The crews began working on the project at the end of the basketball season. The anticipated completion date is May 1, 2005. The athletic staff is currently making plans for a celebration to commemorate the re-opening.
