Men Finish Fall Season on a High Note

The NCAA Division III Golfstat power rankings have the Stormy Petrels ranked fourth nationally after their victory at Cross Creek Plantation in Seneca, South Carolina at the end of October.

The Golf Coaches Association of America coaches poll has the team ranked even higher in their season ending fall poll. The GCAA places Oglethorpe third in their poll. The Stormy Petrels received one of the first place vote. Guilford College and Methodist College are number one and two in the poll released in late October on the Golf Channel’s College Golf Central.

The team played in four very strong fall tournaments and recorded one win, a second place finish, and two fourth place finishes. The Stormy Petrel’s schedule was ranked by Golfstat as the second most difficult in Division III for the fall season.

The Stormy Petrels have three of the South Region top 25 players with Sophomore Matt Suggett (third) with a scoring average of 73.00, senior Joe Green (eighth) at 73.38, and freshman Joseph Lyda (25th) with a 74.88 scoring average. Sophomore Taylor Urbanski is ranked just outside the top 30 at 34th with a scoring average of 75.50.
