Elizabeth Richmann ’09
Student Athlete
Juggling classes, practice and trips is an ongoing balancing act, but one in which she is supported by professors, teammates and friends. “Life as a student-athlete is challenging,” says Elizabeth Richmann, “but I wouldn’t have it any other way!” Elizabeth was looking for a small school where she could continue to play basketball, get a great education and still stay close to home. Oglethorpe delivered on all fronts for her. “At Oglethorpe, it’s all about being a student who is also an athlete; you’re a student-athlete who is here to get an education. It’s something our coaches talk to us about all the time.”
The highlight of her basketball career came in the 2007-2008 season when her team went to the Final Four. As team captain, she was amazed at the support she and her team received from faculty, fellow students and non-athletes. “That’s exactly what Oglethorpe’s all about - that great sense of community.”
A math major, Elizabeth excels both on and off the court. She plans to attend graduate school and then go on to become a secondary math teacher. She wants to give back at that level because, “High school is when you start to settle down and students need that extra support. Math comes naturally to me so I want to help those who need the help most.” About her time at Oglethorpe, Elizabeth affirms, “Oglethorpe is a school full of all the opportunities and experiences you will ever need to succeed, in the classroom and on the court.”
