OU Women Golfers Finish 12th at Jekyll Collegiate
The Oglethorpe Women’s Golf team hosted 21 teams in the 2006 Jekyll
Island Women’s Collegiate Invitational in late March. The team
finished 12th of the 21 teams in the field that included
thirteen of the nation’s top 25 teams.
Freshmen Amanda Carpenter and Carrie Shirah
opened with a pair of 86’s to lead Oglethorpe to a first round score
of 351 good for 11th place.
Senior Mallory Pusch led the team on the windy
day two with a round of 87 but the team score ballooned to 366.
On day three, the women improved 16 strokes
with a closing round of 350. Shirah fired a team tournament best 81
in the final round. The 81 was the best single round shot at Jekyll
by an Oglethorpe women’s golfer in school history.
Sophomore Julia Gates shot a closing round 87
and freshman Paige McCollum added a closing round 90.
Shirah finished tied for 34th, the
best OU Women’s finish at Jekyll, with a three day total of 261.
Gates and Pusch tied for 51st with a 54 hole total of
269. McCollum tied for 63rd with a three round total of
272 and Carpenter finished tied for 70th with a three day
total of 275.
