OU Harriers Traverse Rugged Terrain
Oglethorpe’s cross country teams raced over the challenging Mercer
Atlanta cross country trails Saturday morning and fared well. Over
a difficult hill climb that is rapidly becoming legendary throughout
Georgia OU’s Enrique Sanchez and Gillian Brady both finished 20th
for their squads.
The women finished 8th of 11 teams, including NCAA Division I
host Mercer and finished 3rd among the five Division III schools.
Brady covered the 5k course in 24:04, a time not indicative of the
distance but more of the terrain. She was followed by Avery
Livingston in 31st, Ashley Smith in 42nd, Kelly Moran in 58th and
Debbie Lubbe in 59th. In addition to the scoring five, Yves
Ghislain, Wendy Madill, Mallory Summers, Brandy Rich and Lydia
Hofstetter also finished the course.
The men did not register a team score as Coach Unger had senior
Kyle Taylor, who is mending early season afflictions, drop from the
race after his first time over the 1500m hill climb. Freshman
Sanchez covered the 6k race in 23:03, the first Division III
finisher. Evan Price finished second for OU in 25:28, while Ryan
Fulgham and Aaron Connolly finished 3rd and 4th for the team in
27:37 and 28.28, respectively.
Coach Unger expects both squads to be at full strength this
coming Saturday, September 16th, as the school hosts its annual
(since 1989) cross country invitational. Teams coming to compete
against Oglethorpe include Clark Atlanta, Chattahoochee Tech,
Georgia College & State University, Truett-McConnell, and Tennessee
Wesleyan. The races begin and finish on the academic quad. The
men’s 8k starts at 9:00 A.M. and the women’s 5k starts at 10:00 A.M.
