HEAD COACH: BOB UNGER

Head Coach Bob Unger enters his twentieth season at the helm of the men’s and women’s cross country teams.  As the season begins he is a mere 16 wins from 300 dual meet victories while at Oglethorpe.  “We have averaged over 15 wins a season since 1989,” Unger says.  “It has become increasingly less common to find dual meet scores.  The trend has been to bigger and more costly meets – not necessarily better for the sport.”

Unger began his cross country career running under the tutelage of Annville-Cleona High School’s George Gerber, Pennsylvania’s  school boy coach with the most all-time wins. Gerber is Pennsylvania’s most successful coach, taking many squads to the state finals.  Unger continued running at nearby Lebanon Valley College where he also began his coaching career.  In addition to coaching ALL-SCAC and NCAA finalists, he trained Ireland’s 5000 meter entry for the 1996 Olympics.

He and his wife Beth celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary this June.  Their son, James, is the jumps coach during track season and teaches 4th grade at Austin Elementary School.  Their daughter, Evelyn, is a graduate student in Paleobiology at Bristol University in Great Britain.

ASSISTANT COACHES: GILLIAN and HOLEN BRADY

Holen and Gillian Brady hold the 4th and 5th spots on the Top-30 Fastest Times for women’s cross country at Oglethorpe.  The sisters hail from Plattsburgh, New York where they began their cross country careers at Seton Catholic High School.  Holen is a graduate of the Class of 2005 and Gillian the Class of 2008.  Each is in her first year as assistant at Oglethorpe.
