It certainly has been a pleasure serving Oglethorpe University as
Athletic Director and the strides made within the Athletic
Department in recent months are signs of an exciting future to come.
In keeping with the University’s mission of producing
student-athletes who work hard to make a life, make a living and
make a difference, the Athletic Department is pleased to report that
Oglethorpe’s student-athletes continue to set the bar high in both
the classroom and on the athletic fields.
The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference is one of the most
highly regarded conferences in Division III and our rival members
represent the most distinguished liberal arts colleges the south has
to offer. To compete at a high level in this competitive conference,
the University is constantly making improvements to our athletic
facilities and within the department to continue to compete at a
high level.
Among those recent improvements that I’m thrilled to highlight
are the renovations of the Department of Sports Medicine and the
upcoming Oglethorpe Tennis Center which will be ready for action during our 2006-2007 season. The department of Sports Medicine, in partnership with
Infinite Sports Inc., renovated and installed state-of-the-art
equipment throughout the athletes training area. Among the
highlights to the training room are seven new training tables, four
electrical stimulation machines with UltraSound units and three new
whirlpools in the newly minted hydro-therapy room. The Tennis
Center, set to break ground in July 2006, will elevate both the fans’ and
the athletes’ experience during tight SCAC matches.
As the Athletic Department here at Oglethorpe continues to grow,
I welcome you to stop by the campus to observe our strides. Whether
you’re alumni or a neighbor of the University, you are always
encouraged to cheer on the Stormy Petrels.
