Men Finish Fourth at Jekyll Island Collegiate
March 26th- The Stormy Petrel men’s golf team finished
fourth at the 8th annual Jekyll Island Men’s Collegiate
Golf Invitational. On the Oleander Course on Georgia’s coast.
The Petrels, the 2005 Jekyll Island champions,
found themselves in 2nd place after shooting 285 the
first day. They were three shots behind the leader Otterbein.
However, Otterbein was unable to keep the second round lead and
Methodist took a one stroke lead over Huntingdon into the final
round.
Methodist shot a closing 285 to pull away from
Huntingdon’s 296 and Oglethorpe’s 294 in the final round. Otterbein
with a 4 under par 284, had the best round of the day, making a late
charge to finish 2nd to the Monarchs from Fayetteville,
NC.
Otterbein’s Matt Collins shot a 66 in the final
round. Collins birdied the first six holes of the day and eight of
the first ten holes, making him eight under through eleven holes,
leading Otterbein’s charge up the leader board.
Senior Adam Horton of Methodist College carded
a 2 under 70 ad did his teammate junior Nick Bova, to pace Methodist
two their second Jekyll Island Collegiate in three years.
Oglethorpe was paced by Taylor Urbanski, a
sophomore from Parkview High School, who finished 6th
with rounds of 70-75-71 = 216 to earn a spot on the All Tournament
team. Freshman Josh Kinsey carded rounds of 72-76-71 = 219 and
finished tied for 13th. Danny Swanick shot 73-77-71 = 221
to end up in 15th place, playing as an individual.
Freshman Jon Visconti, also playing as an individual, shot 73-76-76
= 225 to finish tied for 26th.
Joe Green finished 29th, Joseph Lyda
finished tied for 31st with rounds of 70-78-79 = 227.
Matt Suggett finished 38th in the 128 player field.
