Petrels Stumble on 'Moving Day' at the NCAA's
The Oglethorpe University men's golf team saw their national championship hopes dwindle considerably on Thursday afternoon when they fell from second to fifth place after posting a team score of 19 over par 303.
After holding the second spot down entering the round, Oglethorpe watched the University of Redlands, Methodist University and St. John's (Minnesota) leap-frog them in Round Three action, typically referred to as "moving day" in golf circles. St. John Fisher posted a 13 over par 297 to maintain a four stroke lead over the University of Redlands.
Senior All-American Taylor Urbanski struggled to find his groove on the course for the third straight day and after posting a round of 8-over 81 is all the way back in a tie for 86th place individually.
On the bright side, sophomore Scott Pugh continued his stellar play by posting a 2-over par 73 and will enter the final round tomorrow in a tie for 5th place overall with a solid opportunity of becoming a First Team All-American.
Oglethorpe will tee off for the final round tomorrow between 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. needing outstanding performances from all five team members if they hope to capture the school's first ever national championship.
