OU Men Stumble to 15th Place Finish at Callaway Classic

The Oglethorpe University men's golf team stumbled out of the gate to the 2008 spring season by finishing 15th out of 16 teams at the 2008 Callaway Classic. After securing their first #1 national ranking in school history, the Stormy Petrels slipped after an injury to junior Hap Kaufold forced head coach Jim Owen to shuffle his lineup.

Only freshman Matthew Rebitch and sophomore Scott Pugh were able to record top-50 finishes as the Petrels struggled to get in the groove all week long. Rebitch and Pugh each recorded two-day totals of 15-over 159 to both finish in a tie for 46th place.

Senior First Team All-American Taylor Urbanski had difficulty at the Callaway, shooting an uncharacteristic 20-over par 164 to finish in a tie for 67th. Junior Dave Beazer finished one stroke behind Urbanski in a tie for 70th.

The Stormy Petrels will look to rebound when they travel to Jekyll Island in two weeks time for the Jekyll Island Classic.
