Oglethorpe Captures Eighth SCAC Championship
The Oglethorpe University men's golf team won their unprecedented eighth SCAC Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Tunica Resorts in Mississippi. The Petrels easily outdistanced the field to become an automatic qualifier for the Division III Championships to be held in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Junior Scott Pugh won medalist honors and was named SCAC Player-of-the-Year for his outstanding efforts.
Pugh was one of four Petrels who finished inside the tournament's top seven to collect posteseason honors.
Freshman Colin Chapman joined Pugh on the SCAC First Team while sophomore Olafur Loftsson and senior Hap Kaufold were Second Team honorees.
The NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships will be held from May 11 through May 16 at the PGA Course at Port St. Lucie. Oglethorpe has finished inside the top ten at each of the last seven Championships.
