Oglethorpe Third at Rain-shortened Cardinal
Hurricane Jeanne rains out the second day in North Carolina
GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Stormy Petrels men’s golf team kicked off the 2004
Fall Season by finishing third out of 18 schools teeing it up at the Tom
O’Briant Memorial. Oglethorpe has finished first, second and second in their
three most recent visits to the difficult Cardinal Golf Club designed by the
famed Pete Dye. No. 1 ranked Methodist College of Fayetteville, N.C., won
the event for the second consecutive year with an opening round 296 to
Oglethorpe’s 302 before the rains set in and washed out the second round.
Host Guilford College shot 301 on their home course to take second place.
Junior Jonathan Davis, Kennett Square, Penn., had the low Oglethorpe round
of 72 followed by fellow junior Joe Green at 74 and senior Corey Garner at
77. Danny Swanick 79 and freshman Taylor Urbanski 81 rounded out the scoring
for Oglethorpe. Davis finished third behind Duke University freshman Bryce
Mueller at 3 under par 67 and Methodist Junior Eric Dugas’ even par 70
round. Joe Green tied for eighth with 74, giving the Stormy Petrels two
players in the top 10 for the fourth consecutive year. ###
