Oglethorpe Third at Greensboro Invitational
Freshman Taylor Urbanski fires rounds of 69-70 to finish second
individually GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Oglethorpe men’s golf team
shot two consecutive rounds of two over par, 290, en route to an
impressive 580 two-day total good for a third place finish at the
Greensboro College Invitational.
No. 1 ranked Methodist College, Fayetteville, N.C., and
Huntingdon College, Montgomery, Ala., shared the first-round lead
with two-under-par rounds of 286 followed by Guilford College,
Greensboro, N.C., at one over par, 289, and Oglethorpe one shot
behind Guilford. The Stormy Petrels fired another solid 290 on day
two, but the Monarchs of Methodist College, paced by Eric Dugas’
three-under-par 69 and Adam Horton’s two-under-par 70, closed with
an outstanding four-under-par 284 to win their second consecutive
Greensboro Invitational at the Meadowlands.
Guilford College shot identical 289 rounds to finish second, two
shots in front of Oglethorpe. Huntingdon College fell back to fifth
place with a closing 306. Emory University finished fourth with
rounds of 298-287.
Individually, freshman Taylor Urbanski, Snellville, Ga., broke
Trent Erb’s Meadowlands Golf Club school record of 70-70 = 140 with
an impressive 69-70 = 139 on the 6,739-yard Hale Irwin design.
Urbanski finished tied for second just two strokes off the lead of
Methodist College’s Eric Dugas, 68-69 = 137. Sophomore Danny Swanick,
Tampa, Fla., finished tied for sixth with rounds of 71-72 for a
one-under-par 143. The sixth place finish was Swanick’s first top 10
of his career.
Senior Corey Garner, 77-73, and juniors Joe Green, 75-75, and
Jonathan Davis, 75-75, all tied for 30th place with six-over-par
150s.

Oglethorpe’s next tournament is the prestigious Gordin Collegiate
Classic at Deer Track Resort in Surfside Beach, S.C. The Gordin
Collegiate is named after legendary Ohio Wesleyan Coach Dr. Dick
Gordin and invites the top 12 teams in the NCAA National Tournament
field from the year before. This is Oglethorpe’s fourth consecutive
trip to the Gordin.
