OU Women Fifth in SCAC: Spring Season Improvement Leads to
Strong Finish
In the first season of women’s golf, led by Coach Jim Owen, the
Stormy Petrel women golfers started the fall season slowly. The team
gained momentum and finished a solid fifth in the SCAC conference
championship at the PineIsle golf course, Lake Lanier, Ga., in late
April.
The addition of junior Heather March at the beginning of the
spring semester added a great deal of experience to the team. March
earned second team All-SCAC honors for her play at the 2004 SCAC
Conference Championship. Heather had rounds of 83-91 for a two-day
total of 174.
Oglethorpe shot an opening 380, led by a season best of 83 from
March and found themselves tied for fourth with Southwestern after
day one of the tournament. In day two, an injury forced senior
Jennifer Brown to withdraw and left Oglethorpe with all four
remaining scores counting.
Leigh Kite, a freshman from Douglasville, Ga., fired steady
rounds of 92-91 = 183, good for a tie for 18th in the championship.
Jaclyn Crissey, 100-104 = 204, finished 27th and Megan Elliott and
Stephanie Peccia had identical 105-104 scores to finish 29th.
Petrels Finish Second at Sewanee Invitational
SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Stormy Petrels finished behind Rhodes College
at the Sewanee Invitational. Oglethorpe totaled rounds of 393 and
387, trailing Rhodes and ahead of The University of the South and
Piedmont.
Heather March, 87-95 = 182, finished fifth overall and Leigh
Kite, 99-88 = 187, finished sixth. Senior Stephanie Peccia, 98-107 =
205, ranked 12th individually. Jaclyn Crissey, Megan Elliott and
Jennifer Brown finished 13 through 15.
OU Wins at The Orchard vs. Piedmont
CLARKSVILLE, Ga. – Heather March fired an 85 and seniors Jennifer
Brown (93) and Stephanie Peccia (98) had career bests against
Piedmont at The Orchard. The Stormy Petrel women’s team fired a
school best of 377.
