Women’s Golf Improves During Fall
Season
The Petrel golf team showed a lot of
improvement in the two months of the fall season. This was the
first time the Oglethorpe women’s program has played a fall season.
Seniors Jennifer Brown and Stephanie Peccia
were the only two returning players for this season. Both showed
solid play during the fall season with Peccia carding her career
best score of 102 in the second round of the Coosa Country Club
Invitational on October 14th.
The women played five competitive rounds in
the fall beginning in mid September with a tri-match involving
Berry/Shorter/Oglethorpe at Stonebridge Golf Club near the campus of
Berry College. The Petrels totaled 427 strokes in their inaugural
campaign with Coach Jim Owen. A month later the Petrels ended their
fall season at the Berry College/Coosa Country Club Invitational
with a season best 397 score an improvement of 30 strokes.
Freshman Leigh Kite of Douglasville, GA has
been the bright spot at the number one position for the squad
throughout the fall season. Kite posted a 91.8 scoring average to
lead the team.
Freshman Jaclyn Crissey 107.0 scoring average
has played steady as has junior Megan Elliot a transfer student from
Wesleyan College with a 103.4 scoring average.
The women’s first tournament of the spring
season will be at Jekyll Island in the Golden Isles Collegiate
Invitational in mid March. The SCAC Conference Championship will be
hosted by Oglethorpe University at the scenic PineIsle Resort on
Lake Lanier on April 23-25.
Oglethorpe Women’s Golf Gets First
Win
The Oglethorpe Stormy Petrel women’s golf team
traveled to Clarkesville, GA to The Orchard Golf Club and beat
Piedmont College in a dual match on Thursday, Sept. 25 by the score
of 405 to 450.
The Petrels led by a trio of freshmen and two
seniors recorded a team score of 405 defeating Piedmont by 45
strokes. Freshmen Leigh Kite of Douglasville, GA was the medalist
with a score of 90. Jaclyn Crissey from Marietta High School shot a
99 and finished second overall. Megan Elliott shot 101 to finish
third overall in the dual match. Seniors Stephanie Peccia 115 and
Jennifer Brown 126 rounded out the scoring for Oglethorpe.
The win marked the first victory by a women’s
golf team at Oglethorpe since the inception of the program in the

OU Women Improve at Berry
Invitational
Freshman Leigh Kite finishes 18th
at Coosa Country Club
The Oglethorpe women’s golf team played in
their first major tournament of the year at the Berry Invitational
in Rome, Georgia Sunday October 12th through Tuesday
October 14th.
The team had played three one day events but
the tournament at Coosa is the first two round event of the year.
The field was made up of five good NAIA teams including #10 ranked
Berry and #15 Shorter College. Oglethorpe was the lone Division III
school in the field.
Leigh shot an opening round 96 and followed it
up with an impressive 90 for a 186 total on the 5914 yard Coosa
Country Club layout. Megan Elliott shot 106-100=206 total to finish
32nd. Stephanie Peccia finished with rounds of
109-102=211 to finish 33rd. The 102 was a personal best
competitive round for Stephanie, a senior from Pinehurst, NC.
Freshman Jaclyn Crissey rounded out the
scoring with a 111-105=216 and finished 34th.

Women Golf Wins Again
The Stormy Petrel women’s golfers won their
second consecutive match over Piedmont College at The Orchard Golf
Club. Leigh Kite shot an 89 to lead the Petrels again and was the
medalist for the dual match. Kite, a freshman from Douglasville,
was followed by senior Jennifer Brown who finished 3rd
with a 102, sophomore Megan Elliott who finished 4th with
a 103, and Jaclyn Crissey finished 5th individually with
a 104. Stephanie Peccia rounded out the Oglethorpe scorers with a
113. Saige Jenkins of Piedmont finished 2nd with a 100.
The team total of 398 was the lowest total to date for the women’s
team.

The Women’s team travels to Rome, Georgia on
Sunday the 12th of October for a 36 hole tournament at
Coosa Country Club. The tournament will be played the 13th
and 14th and end the fall season.
