The SCAC is placing a special emphasis on sportsmanship this year – asking all fans of the conference to exhibit good sportsmanship at all conference functions throughout the 2008-2009 season. Read the SCAC Presidents’ Council statement on Fan Sportsmanship

Each head coach was asked to elect one member from his or her team who displayed good sportsmanship throughout the season. The following student-athletes were named to the 2008 SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the sports of men’s and women’s soccer:

Robertson was dazzling for the Stormy Petrels in his inaugural season on Salamone Field, racking up the second most points on the team with 15. For the season, Robertson found the back of the net twice and assisted on five other goals for the Oglethorpe attack.
 
Robertson will join another stellar recruiting class by head coach Jon Akin next fall for Oglethorpe as they look to climb the ranks of the SCAC standings.

The score was knotted 0-0 at halftime before the Tigers broke through early in the second stanza to take the lead. E.J. Ovie-Ogodo responded with an unassisted goal for the Petrels in the game's 72nd minute and the two teams played scoreless soccer through the remainder of the game including two overtimes.
 
With the result, Oglethorpe finishes the season with a 6-10-3 overall mark. The Petrels will return next season with a roster full of talented players looking to climb the ladder of the SCAC standings.

The two Trinity squads stepped on to Salamone Field today with a combined 23-1-2 record and their play on the pitch certainly supported the sparkling record.
 
The men's team was able to stay with the Tigers for a half, keeping it knotted 0-0, but Trinity broke through with three second half goals to earn the win. With the result, the Stormy Petrel men are now 6-9-2 on the season.
 
The women's team was overmatched by the Tigers and outshot on the afternoon 17-1 before falling by the final score of 8-0. For the season, the women hold a 5-9 overall record.
 
Both teams are back in action this Sunday afternoon when they square of with Southwestern. The men play at 12:00 p.m. followed by the women at 2:00 p.m.

The Petrels got an early unassisted goal from Ben Robertson to take a 1-0 lead over the Lynx and made that score stand up until late in the second half. Rhodes, however, found the back of the net three times in the game's final twenty minutes to secure the 3-1 win.
 
Oglethorpe again struck first against Hendrix on Sunday as Aaron Walker took a feed from EJ Ovie-Ogodo to give the Stormy Petrels a 1-0 lead. The Warriors equalized just before the half and then took a 2-1 lead in the game's 64th minute. Ovie-Ogodo equalized for Oglethorpe on a penalty kick only moments later and the score remained tied throughout two overtime periods. Ovie-Ogodo did have a chance on another penalty kick in overtime but the Warriors keeper Adam Legg denied the bid.
 
After consecutive weekends on the road the Stormy Petrels (6-8-2) return home to host Trinity and Southwestern this coming weekend.
 
 

In eight seasons from 1980-1987, Reynolds compiled a 57-64-11 record for the Oglethorpe University soccer program. Akin surpassed that mark just halfway through his seventh season with the victory over Piedmont and now stands at 58-55-7 in the Stormy Petrel record books.

As an undergraduate, Akin attended Saint Leo University in Florida where he was twice named an All-American and was voted a four-time First Team All-Sunshine State Conference performer for his outstanding efforts on the soccer pitch. Akin became only the second soccer player in Saint Leo school history to be inducted into the Sunshine State Conference Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Stormy Petrels got goals from E.J. Ovie-Ogodo, Nathan Post and Nick Harris and assists from Aaron Walker and Russell Thompson to earn the victory.
 
With the win, Oglethorpe has raised its record to 6-5-1 on the season and will get set to travel to Texas on Friday to face Austin College and on to Colorado Springs for a matchup with Colorado College on Sunday.

Oglethorpe recorded five assisted goals on strikes from Nathan Post, Nick Harris, Justin Graves, Ben Robertson and Evan Britton. Collecting the assists for the Petrels were Aaron Walker, Russell Thompson, Gardar Sigurdsson, Casey Sheppard and Ben Robertson.
 
 

Trailing 1-0 in the first half, sophomore Nathan Post blasted a free kick off the crossbar and past the Eagles keeper to tie the score at one apiece. The score would remain that way until the Eagles outburst late in the contest on a soggy, rain-soaked Salamone Field.
 
With the decision, Oglethorpe is now 4-5-1 on the season and will get set to face LaGrange College on the road this Friday at 7:00 p.m.

Oglethorpe's two goals came within two minutes of each other. EJ Ovie-Ogodo tallied in the 35th minute for the Petrels off an assist by Russel Thompson. Thompson was played through down the right side of the field and got a cross into Ovie-Ogodo in the center.
 
The second goal came in the 37th minute, as the Petrels continued their high-pressure attack of the Panthers goal. Russell Thompson banged home a rebound off a saved shot from Ben Robertson, who picked up the assist on the play.
 
In the second half, the Petrels dropped into a more defensive formation and the visiting Panthers were unable to solve it. Goalkeeper Jon Beaver made three of his four saves in the second half, and despite firing off eight second-half shots, Birmingham Southern could not find the goal.
 
The Petrels improve their record to 4-4-1 on the year, 2-2 in SCAC play. They will step out-of-conference for the next two games, which will be Wednesday at home against Emory and Friday at LaGrange, respectively.

The Petrels scored in the third minute to take the lead, Ben Robertson scoring on a direct free kick. They then picked up a goal as the second-half buzzer sounded, James Harter knocking home a Nick Harris feed for the 2-0 halftime lead.
 
It looked as though Millsaps might claw their way back into the match when they scored in the 48th minute, but the back-breaking goal came only 20 seconds later, as EJ Ovie-Ogodo scored on a breakaway to give the Petrels their two-goal lead back.
 
Aaron Walker then scored in the 51st minute off a feed from Robertson, and Russell Thompson added one for good measure in the 61st off an assist from Ovie-Ogodo.
 
Things got chippy late in the match, as Walker received a red card during a skirmish in the 67th minute. Two yellow cards were given to other Oglethorpe players in the incident, and six yellow cards and the one red were issued during the match between the two teams.

The visiting Tigers scored two goals in the second half for the winning tally. Oglethorpe had taken a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, Ben Robertson scoring off an assist from Nathan Post. However, DePauw tallied twice in the second half. The first goal came on a corner kick, and the second came on a long, looping free kick with just over 20 minutes to go

The men are now 2-3-1 on the season and will be looking for their first conference win on Sunday at 12:00 p.m. when they face-off with the DePauw University Tigers on Salamone Field.

After falling behind 1-0, Oglethorpe got the equalizer just before the half when Ben Robertson fed E.J. Ovie-Ogodo for the goal. Despite having several chances, Oglethorpe would not find the back of the net for the remainder of the game.
 
The Eagles managed to outshoot Oglethorpe 15-9 while the Petrel earned 7 corner kicks to the Eagles 6. Jon Beaver, starting for an injured Michael Hadjisimos, recorded 8 saves in the contest.
 
Oglethorpe is now 2-2-1 on the season and will have a week off before beginning conference play on September 25th versus Centre on Salamone Field at 2:00 p.m.
