A testament to David's dedication and hard work is the fact that he has already earned his degree from Oglethorpe. In addition to being named to the All South Region squad, David was named Oglethorpe's Male Academic Athlete of the Year after compiling a stellar 3.8 GPA in addition to his outstanding play on the soccer field.

Mueller, a senior defensive standout from St. Louis, earned 16 points in the voting to be named to the First Team All-Conference list. Joining Mueller as all conference performers on the All-SCAC Third Team were seniors Matt Brisendine and Jonathan McConnel along with sophomore sensation Danner Marsden.
 
Brisendine, of Birmingham, posted 11 total points this year with 4 goals and 3 assists. It was his last second goal against Birmingham-Southern in double-overtime that many fans will never forget.
 
McConnell recorded 2 goals and an assist on the season playing mostly from the defensive side of the field. He received 5 total points in the voting to secure his Third-Team status.
 
For the second consecutive season, Danner Marsden led the Petrels in total points with 18 by recording a team-high 8 goals and 2 assists.

After posting the most wins of any four-year group in Oglethopre history, the senior Petrels went out and showed why on Salamone Field Sunday afternoon as each of the four graduating seniors recorded a point in the 5-0 victory over the Majors.
 
After ending Friday's contest versus Birmingham Southern in dramatic style, senior Matt Brisendine posted another two goals in his final contest on Salamone Field.
 
Not to be outdone, fellow seniors David Mueller and Jonathan McConnell also found the back of the net. McConnell's goal was assisted by senior Russell Kramer who narrowly missed posting a goal of his own on several chances.

With the win, the Petrels now head confidently into their final contest of the season versus Millsaps on Senior Day this Sunday at 2pm on Salamone Field.

The Petrels will be back in action this Sunday afternoon when they square off with Centre College at 2 p.m.

The match against Sewanee remained tight throughout as the score was knotted 0-0 at the half. Oglethorpe's best chance to dent the scoreboard in the first stanza was thwarted when All-American David Mueller's penalty kick carromed off the post.
 
Not to be denied, however, the Petrels posted the game's only goal in the 70th minute when sophomore Danner Marsden took a feed from Michael Muller, split two Sewanee defenders and angled the ball past their keeper.
 
With the victory, Oglethorpe raised their record to 3-6 on the season.

Prior to the men's and women's home contests against cross-town rival Emory on Salamone Field this Sunday, Oglethorpe head coach Jon Akin will be coaching a youth clinic for soccer enthusiasts from all over the state. Following the clinic, pom-poms will be handed out and the crowd will be encouraged to cheer the Stormy Petrels on against Emory.

The U.S. Youth Soccer Association recognizes the impact and importance of the sport of soccer, the number one youth sport in the U.S., plays in the day-to-day lives of America’s families. Come support the sport of soccer as Oglethorpe embraces the U.S. Soccer Associations four key tenets: fun, family, fitness and friendship.

Freshman Evan Britton scored the Petrels lone goal in the game's 87th minute on a feed from junior Michael Muller to bring the score to 2-1. A pressing Oglethorpe defense, however, allowed Mississippi to seal the victory with a goal in the 88th minute.

The Petrels, now 1-1 on the young season, travel to Greensboro to face Methodist this Friday afternoon.

Sophomore sensation Danner Marsden scored the first of his 2 goals in only the games 5th minute to give the Petrels a lead they would never relinquish.

Only moments later, senior All-Conference performer Matt Brisindine scored the first of consecutive Petrel goals that struck in the 10th and 30th minute to build Oglethorpe's cushion.

Senior Russell Kramer capped the first half scoring to provide a 4-1 cushion and junior Michael Muller finished the scoring for the match with a blast that found the back of the net on a free kick.

Amidst all the goal scoring were series of beautiful passes that resulted in multiple assists. Leading the way, sophomore Italo Cordoza tallied a hat trick of assists while Marsden added two of his own. Freshmen Bryan Burnick and Brett Wooten also got into the act by dishing an assist apiece.

The Petrels will look to bump their record to 2-0 when they square off with Mississippi College at 5pm tomorrow back on Emory's field.

For the women's team, freshman Bonnie Morscheiser from Orlando, Florida was named the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player. In only her first season, Bonnie lit up the SCAC with 9 goals scored (5th in conference) and 5 assists (9th overall) for a team-high 17 points (3rd overall in conference).
 
Sophomore Kira Carr of Roswell, Georgia earned Most Valuable Defensive Player honors by doggedly patrolling the midfield for Oglethorpe all season long and consistently making outstanding stops on players pressing forward against the Petrels.
 
Another freshman sensation, Ryanne Arola of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, was given the Stormy Petrel Award for her outstanding day-to-day approach to the game. In just her first season, Ryanne posted 7 goals (2nd on team) and 3 assists (3rd on team) for a stout first-year total of 10 points (2nd on team).
 
The women's team said goodbye to graduating senior and SCAC record holder for most goals in a game, Stephanie Chapman of Kennesaw, Georgia.
 
For the men's team, Danner Marsden, a freshman from Atlanta, was named Most Valuable Offensive Player after turning in one of the finest first-year performances in Oglethorpe history. Danner tallied a stunning 17 goals (1st in conference) and 6 assists (9th in conference) for a 40 point season that tied him for second overall in the conference.
 
Jonathan McConnell, a junior from Richmond Hill, Georgia, grabbed Most Valuable Defensive Player honors after turning in yet another stellar season from the midfield position. Jonathan scored 6 goals and dished 3 assists but was even more valuable to the team as a tenacious defensive stopper.
 
Jansen Lawrence, a freshman from Roswell, Georgia, was bestowed the Stormy Petrel Award after being one of coach Akin's most reliable everyday players who gave 100% effort in not only his game minutes, but practice minutes as well.
 
The men's team bid farewell to the following outstanding seniors:

two time All-SCAC and team captain defender Chris Freidenstein (Memphis Futbol Club); Oglethorpe record holder in assists in a season and career assists Josh Rosendahl (AFC Lightning); SCAC record holder (points in a game/ goals in a game)  forward Zach Atkinson (Augusta Arsenal); two-time All-SCAC defender Nick Mosley (United Quest);  Oglethorpe record-holder (career matches played) defender Anthony Thompson (United Quest); and captain and midfielder Erik Horne(LaFranaire Soccer Club).

 

The council, which is a student-athlete advisory committee, typically meets sometime after the completion of the month to vote for the award.
 
On October 15 at Hendrix, Marsden earned his first career hat trick and on October 17 against LaGrange, he tallied two goals and two assists. He finished the month with nine goals and four assists. 

David Mueller (St. Louis - Busch Soccer Club) anchored the Petrels' defense all season long and helped the team to its best overall finish in school history (13-6-0). David also added seven goals and six assists for a total of 20 points from the central defender position. "David does an amazing job for us in the back," says head coach Jon Akin. "David is a great leader on and off the field and he is definitely one of the best players in D-III soccer."

Josh Rosendahl (Stockbridge, Ga. - AFC Lightning Premier) had an outstanding senior year breaking both the Oglethorpe career and single-season assist records (30 and 15, respectively). Rosendahl led the SCAC in assists and assists per game (0.79) this season. He finished tied for fourth in the nation in assists and fifth in assists per game. "Josh was one of my first recruits when I arrived at Oglethorpe University and he has left his mark on this program and this conference," adds coach Akin. "For four years, Josh led by example and we will miss him."

This is Mueller's third consecutive selection to an All-Region squad and his second selection to the first team. This is Rosendahl's first All-Region selection.

Mueller, the captain of the team and a junior from St. Louis, scored seven goals and added six assists this year from the central defender position. Mueller was the runner-up for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Defensive Player of the Year and was named to the All-SCAC first team for the third consecutive year. He was also named NSCAA All-Region for the third consecutive year and was named to the first team for the second consecutive year.

 

He is the first player in the 44-year history of Oglethorpe soccer to be named to an All-American team.

The Petrels also boast five All-SCAC performers for the second year in a row.  Junior defender David Mueller (St. Louis - St. Louis Soccer Club) and freshman forward Danner Marsden (Decatur, Ga. - TYSA Soccer Club) led the way, making the first-team All-SCAC list.  Senior midfielder Josh Rosendahl (Stockbridge, Ga.- AFC Lightning) made the second team and senior Nick Mosley (Woodstock, Ga.- United Quest Soccer Club) and junior Matt Brisendine (Birmingham, Ala. – Vestavia Steamers) both made third-team All-SCAC for the second consecutive year.  Only top-ranked Trinity had more than two players on the SCAC first-team and Danner Marsden was the only freshman. Mueller was the runner-up for the SCAC Defender of the Year and Marsden was the runner-up for Newcomer of the Year.

 
Statistically, Oglethorpe continues to shine.  The Stormy Petrels finished first in the SCAC in assists and second in points, goals and goals per game.  
 
Individually the Petrels were on fire too, led by SCAC goal leader Danner Marsden (17). Marsden also finished first in goals per game (0.94) and second in points (40) and points per game (2.22).
 
Matt Brisendine finished second in the SCAC in goals (14) and goals per game (0.74), behind Marsden. He also finished third in the SCAC in points (40) and fourth in points per game (1.58). 
 
Josh Rosendahl broke the school record for assists in a season (15) and in a career (30). Josh led the SCAC in assists and assists per game (0.79), and ranked in the top five nationally in assists. He finished fifth in the SCAC in total points (29) and points per game (1.53). 
 
Sophomore Michael Muller also left his mark finishing second in the SCAC in assists per game (0.69) and third in the SCAC in total assists with 11.

It was freshman Danner Marsden, however, that scored the game's first goal on one of senior Josh Rosendahl's patented assists. With the lead in hand, the Petrels continued to attack and scored a second time when Jonathan McConnell found Russell Kramer for a cracking goal.
 
In the second half, Rosendahl added a nice finishing touch to his career when fellow senior Zach Atkinson fed him for the Petrels third goal of the game.
 
On the year, Oglethorpe finished 13-6 and cemented the first back-to-back-to-back double digit win seasons in school history.
