History of the Garden
The garden is run by volunteers and staff from Oglethorpe University, St. Martin’s Episcopal School, Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church, Brookhaven Christian Church, the Georgia Master Gardener program, and other interested Brookhaven neighbors.  We have six large raised beds that are located behind Goodman Hall.

The Oglethorpe-Brookhaven Community Garden was created in February 2009 to:

  • Create and strengthen partnerships in the Brookhaven community
  • Provide healthy, fresh vegetables to those in need in our area through the Suthers Center for Christian Outreach
  • Provide educational opportunities for Oglethorpe students and Brookhaven community members about gardening, local food, and organic agriculture

Summer 2011: Suthers Center volunteers receiving a donation from the Community Garden of cucumbers, green beans, okra, and tomatoes. The fresh produce helps the Food Pantry provide to 30-40 Chamblee and Brookhaven families per month.
April 2012: During a tour of the Community Garden, 26 local Brookhaven Daisy Troop members learned how to start a garden, how to maintain it, what vegetables and fruits to grow, and how to harvest lettuce and other crops.

Visit us and see what's currently growing in our garden! Students, staff, faculty, and community members are always welcome to work in the garden by watering, weeding, and harvesting crops. Please contact Peyton Healy if you are interested in helping out or learning more about the garden.

The OU-Brookhaven Community Garden would like to thank Davis Landscape for donating the materials used to get our garden started.
