The Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest
Inventory (SII) will give you the opportunity to gain meaningful
insight into how your personality and interests effect your academic
and career choices. The inventories can help you reaffirm the
choices you have already made or open up career possibilities that
you have never considered.
The MBTI Career Version: The MBTI is not meant to
tell you exactly what you should do with your life, but can give
insight into how you like to look at the world and how you like to
go about making decisions. Knowing your own preferences can
help you understand how you relate to others, your special
strengths, what kinds of work you might enjoy, and how you can be
successful. Once you take the MBTI the results of your
completed inventory will be available through the Career Services
office. You will receive a eight page career report including your
MBTI description, interpretation, and a top 50 occupation list.
The SII College Edition:
The SII is based on the idea that individuals are more satisfied
and more productive when they work in jobs or at tasks they find
interesting and when they work with people whose interests are
similar to their own. By identifying your general interests,
the things you like to do, and the occupations in which you are
interested, you may increase your career and life satisfaction.
The inventory is not a test of your abilities, once you take the SII
the results will be available through the Career Services office.
Your results will include a 23 page interpretive report, and a
description of your interest type with a list of common careers for
your type.
The MBTI and SII can be taken in the Career Services office or
from any computer on or off campus. It is recommended that the
assessments be taken at the same time to get the maximum feedback
and benefit. Results are confidential and are sent directly to the
Career Services office. It is necessary to make an appointment with
your career counselor to view and discuss your results. Oglethorpe
students and alumni can take the
MBTI and the SII at a reduced fee of $15 per inventory.
