Safety and Security
Always lock your door and take your key with you, even if you
are leaving for just a short period of time. Do not lend your key
to others. Do not keep large amounts of cash in your room Protect
the safety of your fellow residents by respecting all visitation
policies. Keep outside doors locked even if it causes you an
inconvenience. Propping outside doors for easier re-entry or
giving out access codes to buildings compromises the safety of the
entire building and is considered a very serious violation of
The outside doors of Traer are monitored by an alarm
between the hours of 12:00 midnight and 7:00 a.m During these
hours if a door remains open for more than 45 seconds an alarm
will sound until the door is closed.
The University recommends that each student bring a cell phone to campus as telephone service is not available in the residence halls rooms. Telephones for local calls and emergency use will be available in common areas of each building.
The University maintains a relationship with AT&T wireless which provides a discount for service to faculty, staff, and students. Due to the construction of campus buildings and the lack of cell phone towers in the area, not all cell phone companies have good coverage on campus. AT&T and Verizon Wireless seem to provide the most coverage on campus and in the residence halls. However, the University makes no guarantee that AT&T or Verizon or any other service provider will have coverage on campus.
All student rooms are wired for Internet accessibility, both wired and wireless. For additional information on the
network, you can visit the
IT Services web page or drop by their office in Goodman
