The Oglethorpe Women’s Network was organized in fall of 2000
by Betsy Hansen, wife of Board of Trustees member Harald Hansen, and
Marsha Large, wife of Oglethorpe President, Dr. Larry Large. The
organization was patterned after the Women’s Studies Council at Duke
University, founded by Dr. Jean O’Barr. The first program presented
was Hear My Story, a two-day symposium of the unsung experiences of
twenty women in the Civil Rights Movement. An archival tape of these
stories was distributed to high schools, colleges, and museums in the
Atlanta area and the southeast.
Programs sponsored by OWN are intended to offer educational,
social, and personal development to the campus community and to
interested members of the community.
