Purpose:

Welcome to Oglethorpe University’s LGBTQ organization! We provide many services for Oglethorpe students:

  • we are a social and emotional support for gay men, lesbians, bisexuals and those questioning their identities on our campus
  • an educational outreach and community service organization--we promote education and equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people
  • and most of all, an active and positive image and voice for gays and lesbians on campus. As the old saying goes: "We’re here, we’re queer, and we won’t disappear!"

Membership:

Our members are made up of a fairly diverse group of homosexual, bisexual, heterosexual, etc. people. We strive for acceptance, and therefore we practice it. We discourage exclusivity. In other words, you don’t have to be gay to be part of our organization! You will find students, faculty, staff and alumni among us. Unity through Community is an idea we believe in. By encouraging the interaction of different perspectives, we hope to foster understanding and education.

Our membership is also open. This means that our members are not required to attend a certain number of meetings, nor are they "initiated" in any way into our group. Support can exist in a variety of forms, and we encourage people to participate without feeling pressured.

Meetings:

We hold regular meetings in the Philip Weltner Library.  These meetings are subject to change based on need and convenience, so for the most up-to-date information please check the calendar of events link from the home page or watch for flyers posted on campus to announce important details.
