2011-2012 School Year

University sponsored health insurance plan
ALL FULL-TIME STUDENTS taking 12 or more credit hours are required to have personal health insurance. To enforce this policy, all full-time students will be enrolled in the university sponsored health insurance plan for the period 8/10/11 to 8/09/12 and $265.00 for the Base plan will be charged to your student statement. All intercollegiate sport athletes, and international and exchange students purchasing OU’s student insurance as their sole coverage will be charged the additional $345.00 for a combined Basic + Major Medical maximum of $50,000 per injury or sickness.

The new PPO plan includes the following enhancements for 2011-12:

  • Increased plan maximum from $10,000 to $25,000 (per Injury or Sickness)
  • Increased the Inpatient Hospitalization
  • Increased the Psychotherapy Benefits
  • Outpatient Physician Visits and Urgent Care – $20 co-pay (not limited to the Outpatient Misc. Benefits)
  • Emergency Room Visits - $50 co-pay (not limited to the Outpatient Misc. Benefits)
  • Increased the Outpatient Misc. Benefits from $1,000 to $1,500 maximum (per Injury or Sickness)
  • Added a Dental benefit that will cover up to $2,000 for removal of impacted wisdom teeth
  • Includes Repatriation and Medical Evacuation
  • Increased the Optional Major Medical benefit to $50,000 per Injury or Sickness (combined Basic + Major Medical)

Waiver of coverage
Students with health insurance can waive coverage under the university sponsored plan.  To do so, students are required to complete the online waiver before the deadline of September 16, 2011.  Waivers received for the Fall semester will apply for the full academic year.  For those students who enter school for the Spring semester, the fee is $175.00 (1/5/12 -8/09/12) for Basic plan and Optional Major Medical can be purchased for an additional $210.00.  The waiver information for Spring must be submitted by January 20, 2012.  Requests for exemption after the deadline may not be honored.  If you do nothing, the cost of the insurance will be added to your student statement. 

Optional Major Medical plan
Oglethorpe is pleased to offer an Optional Major Medical plan for $345.00 (in addition to the Base annual premium of $265.00).  For an annual rate of $610.00, this upgraded policy includes major medical insurance with co-insurance at 80% in network and 65% out-of-network, to a $50,000 maximum benefit (combined Base plan + Major Medical).   An option to purchase major medical insurance to complement the base plan can assist students who are looking for more comprehensive coverage to protect against unforeseen medical expenses.
