Residence Life Home
The Office of Residence Life at Oglethorpe University offers the gender neutral option to upper class students who mutually agree and who reside in Bowden-Magbee, Jobe-Hansen, and Upper Quad (Alumni & Jacobs) Residence Halls. Oglethorpe University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status, or national or ethnic origin in the administration of its residence halls. Gender neutral is defined as when there are one or more genders that are different living in a suite. Students who agree to the gender neutral suite must sign a gender neutral contract.
A resident who elects to live in gender neutral housing must understand the following:
- That if a member of the suite cancels before or during the academic year, the gender neutral contract will be dissolved. In that case, the Residence Life Office can reassign members of that suite to a traditional gender suite, unless the resident(s) can identify a person to fill that vacancy in order to preserve the gender neutral contract within 48 hours and no longer than one week of the cancellation.
- That the resident(s) will need to abide by the University Bulletin, Residential Policies, and Gender Neutral Contract. It is encouraged and the student’s choice to communicate to parents and family members about living in a gender neutral suite.
- That the resident(s) are aware that they may be assigned suitemates without consideration of gender.
In order to live in gender neutral housing at Oglethorpe University, a resident must sign a gender neutral contract when they sign up to live on-campus. A copy of the gender neutral contract is available here.
