"Be more. Do more. Sophomore."

The mission of this community is to bring together sophomore students who are interested in defining their role within the Oglethorpe community while having a live-in support team.  Students will have the chance to participate in programming within their residence hall focused on various components of their sophomore year, including finding internships, establishing relations with alumni, and participating in civic engagements opportunities just to name a few.  Students will participate in a weekly community meeting within their residence hall and meet other expectations of the learning community.

What are the benefits of this program?

Sophomore year can be a struggle as you begin to navigate your return to your university after your first summer.  Knowing your resources available while establishing your own way can sometimes be confusing. This program is designed to give you a live-in community that can support you throughout your sophomore year.

Who makes up this housing community?

Any rising sophomore who is in good judicial and academic standing is able to apply for the program.  We will accept 20-40 students for this program.

Can I live with my friends in this community?  Will I be randomly assigned a roommate?

Your suite will be made up of other members of the sophomore housing community.  You will have the chance to decide who you would like to live with within this group during our Mixer Event on April 5th.  If you have certain people in mind that you want to live with, encourage them to apply to the program!  It’s also a great opportunity to meet and live with new people.

What if I don’t get in to the program? Will I be late with registering for housing?

For this program, roommate contracts will be signed prior to typical housing contracts, so if you apply and are not selected for the program you will have a chance to select your roommates outside of the program.

Is there an academic requirement associated with this?

While we will not require students to take the Sophomore Choices course, there will be a section available for this community.  We strongly encourage students to register for this course, but understand than it might not be feasible for all residents of the Sophomore Housing community.  Therefore if you do not choose to register for the course, there will be other options available to fulfill that portion of the community.

What is the timeline?

  • March 1st- Application available
  • March 28th- Application due
  • April 5th- Welcome Mixer, roommate selection
