The campus of the Université Catholique de Lille provides a tranquil oasis of scholarly activity in the midst of a busy urban environment. Founded in 1875 and consisting of 40 schools and institutes serving 14,000 students, the University presents an architectural setting strikingly similar to that of Oglethorpe's own gothic campus. Students from "La Catho" have felt immediately at home at Oglethorpe from their very first visit in 1991. A formal agreement between Oglethorpe University and the Université Catholique was signed in 1994. Lille is one of our most popular programs, and many French majors choose to fulfill their study abroad requirement there. Most Oglethorpe students study in the Faculté Libre des Lettres et Sciences Humaines. International relations have been at the forefront of the activities of the Université Catholique de Lille for years. The University has exchange programs and agreements with 100 institutions worldwide. As of 2005-2006 exceptionally qualified students can arrange to receive degrees from both Oglethorpe University and the Université Catholique de Lille.
