Virtual Reality Knots!

Don't have any rope handy? Never fear - the power of the Internet is here! Thanks to Dr. Rob Scharein at the University of British Columbia, you can manipulate real 3D models of knots online! These Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML) files allow you to turn, manipulate, and study knots in three dimensions right from your web browser (with special plug-in software below). Grab one of the FREE VRML viewers and get your hands on Virtual Reality Knots!

First, you need a VRML Plug-in for your web browser.
Cosmo Player works with Netscape and Internet Explorer and is FREE.
Download.com also has other free VRML viewers - enter VRML in the search box.

When you have your VRML set up, check out these amazing knots in 3D:

To see even more of these amazing VRML models, or to see interactive Java wireframe 3D models (for those of you who don't want to download the VRML viewer), go to Dr. Rob Scharein's Ideal Knots Page.
