Getting Hands On

By Kelly Korell

When we first arrived to Hands on New Orleans I was a little surprised at how different this organization is from the organization that we worked with last spring break. This trip has been a completely different experience, and I have met a lot of new people from places like Rhode Island, New Jersey and, of course, New Orleans.  Each day we get the opportunity to sign up for projects that we are interested in which allows for us to meet other volunteers and to not only gut houses, but also de-mold houses and do other fun projects within the community.  Today we are participating in a rally against New Orleans violence.  I am very excited to be here again, and to work with Hand on New Orleans. So far it has been a fun experience and it is wonderful to meet the people that you are helping.  Everyone in the community seems to really appreciate the volunteers that come from all over the country which makes all the hard work worth it.
