Friday, March 24. Posted by Mark DeLong.

Today we returned to the home of Lester and Charmaine to help them sort through their personal belongings before they returned to Houston. The group's work earlier in the week was a great help to certain homeowners, but today's work came with immediate results. Lester and Charmaine were overjoyed to discover many of their personal items, including Lester's wallet and Charmaine's elephant collection. The biggest reward, however came when their daughter Ashley stepped out of the car to meet us.

Lester and Charmaine told us yesterday that Ashley, their 10-year-old daughter, did not want to return to their old home. Ashley never wanted to talk about the hurricane and had rarely smiled in the past 7 months. Today, however, since they were headed straight to Houston, she rode with them to the site. Today, she talked openly about her life, laughed and smiled with our group. Lester and Charmaine were glad we were able to help them sort through their personal items, but they were happiest to see a smile come across Ashley's face again. With each smile, our students knew they had ventured to New Orleans and made a difference over their spring break.
