Wow, the old hammer and crow bar sure felt good in my palms
hammering and tearing down massive walls. We were given a house
which had many personal belongings inside; taking everything out of
the house was really a tough task. Not to mention we had a fridge
full of rotten and nine-month-old stale food and toilets with stale
water still trapped inside them.
Cleaning this house was a challenging task due to those
circumstances but our group completed it with the support of several
guys and girls who were at the site working with us. Removing and
tearing the walls was the fun part. This time I made it a point to
ensure that my nose was properly covered with a good mask to avoid
lung problems.
The new group members are really amazing. I was fascinated by the
efforts put together by Maria, Danielle, Sara and Jeff as new group
members. Joannah's ability to work under extreme tough condtions
amazed me a lot too! I also think the group was enriched by the
experience shared by Duo and Irene who were in the last group. Bev
and Dr. Merola gave us a great support and kept us all alive. It is
now habit for me to carry on political discussions about Marxism,
Communism, Israel Palestine issue, Iraq/ Afghanistan war during the
brief drives with Dr. Merola and Joahanna.
Our 12-year-old mascot and entertainer Idir who is the grandson
of Bev was very fascinating. The guy has such energy, he makes me
look amateur when it comes to being hyper. He perfectly fits into
the group.
Final good news is that I was able to convince others to
contribute to the blog. By tomorrow, you all will get more than one
perspective of things happening around us here in New Orleans.
