Martucci Named Dean at Oglethorpe
ATLANTA - Dr. Karen Martucci of Alpharetta
has been named Dean of University College and Academic Resources at
Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Martucci will assume her duties at
Oglethorpe January 26.
"Dr. Martucci will provide outstanding leadership
in this position," said Oglethorpe University President Dr. Donald
S. Stanton. "We are pleased to welcome her to Oglethorpe."
Martucci will have responsibility for developing
and sustaining student recruitment and retention efforts for
Oglethorpe’s non-traditional education programs and summer school,
which are offered through University College. She will also be
responsible for hiring and supervision of the faculty in University
College. In Oglethorpe’s traditional day program, she will supervise
academic resources including the experiential education program,
academic resource center, office of career services, urban
leadership program and learning disabilities services.
University College is Oglethorpe University’s
continuing education program and caters to working adults. It
consists of credit courses for undergraduates, graduate courses in
business administration and education, and non-credit courses in
computer training and certified financial planning. In keeping with
its mission to educate working adults, University College courses
are scheduled in the evenings and on weekends.
Oglethorpe University offers several academic
resource programs for its students. The Academic Resource Center
provides group and individual tutoring and other academic activities
for students free of charge. The Urban Leadership Program, which has
received major funding from The Rich Foundation, was begun in 1994
to help students cultivate the characteristics, habits, skills and
understanding necessary for leadership in the 21st century through a
balance of courses, workshops, and various on and off campus
experiences. In addition to these programs, Oglethorpe offers
extensive career counseling and experiential education programs
including intern and externship programs in all academic
disciplines.

new dean’s position at Oglethorpe University," said Oglethorpe
University Provost Dr. Nancy H. Kerr. "She has a strong appreciation
for the value of a liberal arts education, and she brings with her
extensive experience in providing leadership for college programs."
Martucci most recently served as acting vice
president for academic affairs and academic dean at Life College in
Atlanta. She received her B.A. in sociology from Furman University,
her M.Ed. in student personnel in higher education from the
University of Georgia and her Ph.D. in educational administration
from The American University.
Martucci served as director of career services at
Millersville University in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and at
Catonsville Community College in Baltimore, Maryland. She also
served as career planning and placement director at Armstrong
Atlantic State University in Savannah.
Oglethorpe University is an independent,
highly-selective, coeducational liberal arts institution located in
Atlanta. Oglethorpe University’s educational programs are in the
arts and sciences, business administration and teacher education. In
addition, a master’s degree in teacher education, a master’s degree
in business administration and programs of continuing education for
adults are offered through University College.
