Magellan String Quartet To Perform at
Oglethorpe
ATLANTA - The Magellan String Quartet, the
graduate string quartet in residence at the Julliard School, will
present a concert at Oglethorpe University on Tuesday, February 17,
1998 at 8 p.m. in Lupton Auditorium.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Donations are appreciated.
The concert will feature Haydn’s String Quartet in
F minor, Op. 20, No. 5; Schnabel’s String Quartet No. 1; and
Beethoven’s String Quartet in B Flat Major, Op. 18, No. 6, "La
Malinconia."
Since its founding in 1992, the Magellan String
Quartet has performed to critical acclaim in cities throughout the
United States and Japan. The Quartet’s many United States
appearances have included performances at Lincoln Center’s Alice
Tully Hall, the Aspen Music Festival, the Kravis Center for the
Performing Arts, Columbia University’s Miller Theater, the Caramoor
Music Festival, and the Museum of Modern Art, along with
performances in California, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Maryland,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Washington D.C.
While deeply committed to traditional string
quartet literature, the Magellan Quartet is actively engaged in the
performance of works by composers of our own time. The quartet also
has a deep interest in teaching, and along with their
responsibilities at Julliard coaching student ensembles, they have
played and spoken before students in high schools and universities
in an effort to bring chamber music to a wider audience.
The Magellan String Quartet is composed violinists
Michael Shih and Patricia Sunwoo, violist Daniel Panner and
violoncellist Kristina Reiko Cooper.
