Stormy Petrels to Tee Off at National Tournament

ATLANTA— Oglethorpe University’s Stormy Petrel Golf Team is one of 23 teams invited to participate in the NCAA-Division III National Tournament at Jekyll Island May 12-15. Practice rounds are May 10 and 11.

The Stormy Petrels, coached by Jim Owen, are ranked 15th in the nation. Oglethorpe was seeded fifth in District III which also includes nationally-ranked Methodist College (no. 1), Greensboro College (no. 2), Guilford College (no. 7) and Emory University (no.11).

The Stormy Petrels played in eight tournaments this year, winning two of them. The Petrels finished in the top five teams in three other tournaments, and in the top seven teams in the other three tournaments.

In addition, the Petrels captured the SCAC championship by a 21-stroke margin. Senior Tolliver Williams of Panama City, Fla. was named conference player of the year and was low medallist for the tournament with rounds of 75-71—146.
