Oglethorpe Alumna Recognized for Outstanding
Service
Atlanta - Oglethorpe University alumna Carol Morgan
Flammer of Marietta has been named the 1998 George Goodwin Award
Winner for the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of
America (PRSA). Named for Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and
Oglethorpe University Trustee Emeritus George Goodwin, the George
Goodwin Award recognizes a chapter member for significant
contributions to the community through volunteer service in civic,
charitable, educational or religious work at consistently high
levels of participation, leadership and achievement. Flammer is
recognized particularly for her continued service to her alma mater,
Oglethorpe University.
Flammer, a 1989 graduate of Oglethorpe, currently serves as
second vice president of Oglethorpe’s National Alumni Board, a board
of which she has been a member since 1995. As second vice president,
Flammer is responsible for overseeing all standing committees of the
Board and chairs the nominating committee. She also serves on the
Board’s advancement committee that is currently focused on the
completion of the University’s $35 million capital campaign, The
Oglethorpe Opportunity. Flammer chaired the admission committee,
working closely with Oglethorpe’s admission staff to recruit alumni
volunteers throughout the U.S. to assist in Oglethorpe’s student
recruitment efforts. She speaks often on campus about careers in
public relations.
In addition, Flammer is a member of the Campus Life Committee, a
sub-committee of Oglethorpe’s Board of Trustees. This committee
meets with student leaders to discuss and improve quality of life
issues for students. As the youngest non-student member of this
committee, Flammer has played an important role in ensuring that
student concerns are addressed.
"Oglethorpe is proud of the many outstanding individuals who have
received degrees from this university," said President Donald S.
Stanton. "Carol Flammer is a shining example of the exceptional
students Oglethorpe attracts and the contributing members of society
they become."
In addition to her volunteer service at Oglethorpe, Flammer has
served on the Cardiac Arrest Committee for the Dunwoody Chapter of
the American Heart Association where she helped raise more than
$5,000. In 1996 she served on the Chi Omega Atlanta Alumnae
Association’s Scholarship Development Committee where she assisted
in developing the criteria for the award as well as assisting in the
interview process. In 1997 she served as a volunteer media
coordinator for The Georgia Games where she was responsible for
identifying media stories and collecting all scores for equestrian
activities at the Georgia International Horse Park.
Flammer is currently employed as Carroll/White Advertising’s
Director of Public Relations. In this capacity she serves as
in-house public relations counsel for the agency, as well as
providing service to existing clients and attracting new public
relations business. Her previous experience includes serving as
Public Relations Director of Zoo Atlanta where she was responsible
for all public relations activities and as Public Relations
Specialist at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Flammer is married to Bill Flammer, also an Oglethorpe University
graduate. They reside in Marietta with their two dogs and cat. Carol
is the daughter of Hugh and Margaret Morgan of Powell, Tenn. In her
spare time, Flammer pursues equestrian activities in the dressage
arena.
