Internationally-Acclaimed Pianist to Perform
at Oglethorpe
Atlanta – Pianist Enrique Graf, a native of Uruguay, will
present a concert at Oglethorpe University on Thursday, September 9,
1999. The concert begins at 8 p.m. in the Conant Performing Arts
Center and is free and open to the public.
Graf has established his reputation internationally since winning
the First Prize of the William Kapell International Piano
Competition. He has appeared in major halls throughout the United
States in recitals and with orchestras from Florida to Alaska, in
South America, and in Europe and Asia.
He is one of a handful of pianists in the world who concertizes
at the international, top-flight level, but also is known as one of
the most sought-after and effective teachers. Currently, Graf is the
Artist/Lecturer at Carnegie- Mellon University and
Artist-in-Residence at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.
He is founder and artistic director of the International Piano
Series at Charleston. He came to the United States in 1973 to study
with Leon Fleisher after being awarded a grant from the Organization
of American States and a full scholarship from the Peabody
Conservatory.
Graf’s concert at Oglethorpe University will feature Beethoven’s
Sonata in C Minor, Opus 13; Aaron Copland’s Piano Variations (1930);
Mendelssohn’s Opus 54 Variations Serieuses; and Chopin’s Ballade No.
4 in F Minor, Barcarolle and Ballade No. 1 in G Minor.
Oglethorpe University is an independent, highly selective,
