EarthLink President and CEO to Speak at
Oglethorpe
Atlanta – EarthLink President and CEO Charles (Garry)
Betty will speak at Oglethorpe University’s meeting of Executive
Round Table on Thursday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Talmage
Room of the Emerson Student Center on campus.
Betty oversees EarthLink’s day-to-day operations, and has played
an instrumental role in managing the company’s exponential growth.
Previously, Betty was president and CEO of Digital Communications
Associates, Inc., and the youngest CEO on the New York Stock
Exchange. From 1984 to 1989, Betty served as senior vice president
for sales, marketing and international operations at Hayes
Microcomputer Products.
On September 23, EarthLink and MindSpring jointly announced they
signed a definitive merger agreement that will create the nation’s
second largest provider of Internet access, with an estimated
combined base of over three million members upon completion of the
deal. In the merger, MindSpring and EarthLink will both merge into a
newly formed public company known as EarthLink. In the new company,
Betty will be CEO.
Betty graduated in 1979 from the Georgia Institute of Technology
with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. In 1982 he
received IBM’s prestigious President’s Excellence Award for his work
in developing and announcing the IBM Personal Computer.
Oglethorpe University is an independent, highly selective,
